Mermet USA Targets Zero Waste With GreenScreen® Recovery Program

Mermet USA

Program Paves Way for Customers to Recycle Solar Shade Fabrics

Cowpens, South Carolina (PRWEB) - As part of an effort to maintain its place as a leader in the sustainable solar shade market, Mermet USA has announced the GreenScreen® Recovery Program. Now, in addition to providing a portfolio of solar shades manufactured with a high percentage of recycled fibers, Mermet will, through the GreenScreen® Recovery Program, provide a unique opportunity for customers to recycle used and excess fabrics.

Mermet will take back and recycle 100% of any GreenScreen fabric received from participants of the GreenScreen® Recovery Program. Fabrics eligible for the recovery program include GreenScreen Revive® and the new GreenScreen Evolve™.

Made of 100% PVC-free polyester, GreenScreen Revive® contains a minimum of 89% Repreve® fibers and GreenScreen Evolve contains up to 78% Repreve fibers. A combination of post-industrial and post-consumer plastic waste, Repreve® fibers are made from 100% recycled materials. In comparison to virgin polyester, Repreve® reduces energy consumption by more than 6%, water consumption by nearly 50%, and greenhouse gas emissions by more than 34%. Both fabrics are 100% recyclable.

The GreenScreen® Recovery Program represents a significant commitment to reducing landfill waste, recycling unused material, and preserving the environment for future generations. According to Jules Duguay, General Manager for Mermet Corporation, “Our goal and commitment is to minimize our environmental impact and to take a leadership role in sustainable technology through all of our business practices. This program is a natural extension of that commitment and provides an efficient, straightforward means for our customers to participate in the recovery process.”

Customers ship fabric back to Mermet, who, as part of the Recovery Program, coordinates recycling procedures for all program participants. Recovered GreenScreen® fabrics will be processed to create a second-generation Repreve™ fiber, which may be re-purposed in clothing, upholstery, or new GreenScreen® fabric.

Both GreenScreen Evolve™ and GreenScreen Revive® are Cradle to Cradle Certified™ - Silver, as well as GREENGUARD Gold certified, and have been tested to meet globally recognized performance standards. GreenScreen Evolve™ and GreenScreen Revive® are also RoHS Compliant.
