St Louis, MO (PRWEB) - An international retailer had a problem: their stores had cardboard and plastics piling up and it was becoming a mess and they turned to Midwest warehouse provider FW Warehousing for assistance.

This client didn’t want to fill their dumpsters with recyclables. These materials don’t belong in landfills. It’s not environmentally friendly and it is expensive. They needed a quick fix and the Solutions Team at FW Warehousing came up with the answer.

“Our Solutions Team conducted a quick study to access the situation and develop several possible remedies,” said Mark Cusumano, President and CEO of FW Warehousing, a Midwest warehouse and logistics firm. “The simplest and most efficient solution was also the most obvious: FW trailers were being used to deliver goods to the retailer’s stores. Those same trailers could be used to transport the recyclable cardboard and plastics to an FW Warehousing facility after they unload the goods being delivered to the stores. Rather than make an empty return trip, FW could haul the cardboard and plastic and collect the material for recycling for the client.”

But what then? It didn’t make sense to warehouse the recyclables or even store them in the trailers. Instead the FW facility manager brought in an industrial baler and trained his staff on how to operate it safely. He then met with several local recycling firms and negotiated a price for the recyclable materials. FW would collect the cardboard and plastics from the stores, transport them to one of its facilities, bale them and the recycling company would buy the baled cardboard and plastic and recycle it.

“The end result,” Cusumano concluded, “no more unwanted cardboard and plastic packaging cluttering up the client’s stores, less waste going into the landfills and the customer even gets a quarterly check. Going green doesn’t have to mean additional expense. This program saves our client on waste disposal fees and instead generates revenue from those recyclable materials. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
