Mansfield, MA (PRWEB) - Miller Recycling Corporation, in operation since 1940, has expanded their comprehensive list of materials handled to include all types of electronics.

US electronic recycling has increased tremendously according to The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, (ISRI). The industry provides a boost to the US economy of $20.6 billion, including exports of $1.45 billion annually. This has increased from just less than $1 billion in 2002. This industry also employs more than 45,000 full time employees.

At the present time there are no federal mandates to recycle E-waste, although there have been numerous attempts. Some electronics have been banned from state landfills, such as computer monitors, TV’s, and smaller items such as cell phones and other “hand-held” items. These have been determined to contain heavy metals such as lead.

With new technologies such as Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), Light Emitting Diode (LED) and plasma screens, the replacement of CRTs has increased dramatically, resulting in accumulation of used monitors and TV’s. A recent report by Transparent Planet estimates that about 660 million pounds are being accumulated nationally. These items typically require a charge to be cost effectively and properly recycled. Mismanagement of these components through inappropriate storage, recycling or disposal can cause significant environmental harm.

It is the goal of Miller Recycling Corporation to conform to strict guidelines when processing, handling, and marketing this type of scrap. They partner with only fully licensed and reputable companies that adhere to strict environmental guidelines not only at their location, but also with any downstream vendors and consumers. Miller Recycling also adheres to a “no export” policy for intact computers, monitors, TVs, and components.
