An estimated 400,000 pounds of electronics are kept out of landfills by a E-recycling center in Houston.

(PRWEB) - With the year coming to a close, R.A.K.I. Computers Recycling has set an example for tackling the improper disposal of E-waste. In 2014 alone, R.A.K.I. recycled an estimated 200 tons of electronic equipment! This equipment ranges from traditional IT hardware such as desktops and printers to unconventional E-waste found in Houston’s diverse industrial markets like geophysical and pipeline testing.

E-waste is often identified as a rapidly growing issue faced by the developed and Third World countries alike. E-waste comprises of a multitude of components, some containing toxic substances that can have an adverse effect on human health and the environment if not handle properly. Elements such as lead, cadmium, beryllium, mercury, and brominated flame retardants can be found in electronic devices that are carelessly discarded. These hazardous materials have a high risk of polluting the air, contaminating soil, and leaching into water sources without proper handling.

For over 23 years R.A.K.I has specialized in servicing corporate E-waste management and this year R.A.K.I opted to share with its readers the accomplishments its clients and the residential area of Houston have achieved. Through R.A.K.I, 200 tons of electronic equipment has avoided making its way to landfills, preventing the aforementioned effects on the environment. The process of recycling the equipment necessitates a multistage procedure of dismantling, organizing, and often reselling. This system not only saves the environment but creates jobs, allowing the recycling industry to alleviate the economy just as much as it alleviates pollution.

Such growth has become apparent for R.A.K.I; in 2014 the firm launched a series of E-recycling events for the local area to bring E-recycling to the forefront of the residential Houston community. The ideals of responsibility and conscious effort that characterized these recycling events were a contributing factor to the 400,000 pounds of E-waste R.A.K.I scored this year.

“Every time we replace our devices it’s our responsibility to ensure that our old equipment gets disposed of properly. This is especially important during the holiday season when these devices are often renewed. If you do purchase new electronics, take the time to find a responsible recycling center near you," says Jorge Marmol Business Developer at R.A.K.I. Computers Recycling.

R.A.K.I’s New Year resolution is to continue to grow into Houston’s premier E-waste solution. Though 200 tons is impressive, it hopes to tabulate an even larger sum for the year of 2015. Visit the R.A.K.I Computers Recycling homepage to learn more about your E-recycling options.
