City Of DeKalb Selects Lakeshore Recycling Systems As Exclusive Residential Waste, Recycling Partner

  • Ending a 25-year relationship with the same provider, City of DeKalb shifts to LRS for its innovative approach and outstanding service in waste collection and recycling services
  • Residential contract takes effect Sept. 1, 2018, providing the City’s more than 9,000 households with waste, recycling and yard waste collection

Chicago, IL (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Lakeshore Recycling Systems(LRS), the Midwest’s leading independent recycling and waste diversion provider, today announced it has been awarded an exclusive residential waste and recycling services contract to serve the City of DeKalb’s more than 9,000 households, effective September 2018. The contract breaks a more than 25-year relationship with the City’s previous waste hauler, a shift that will result in better service and lower costs.

“The City of DeKalb is happy to partner with LRS for residential waste, recycling and yard waste collection. Providing residents with affordable, innovative services for their refuse and recycling was crucial to the City’s decision to switch haulers. This is one of the many reasons we chose to work with LRS. The City was looking for a hauler to provide our customers with the best price and exceptional service, which is what made LRS standout as a company. LRS is a price-conscious hauler with a history of exceptional service. They not only saved our residents and the City money, they also offer a unique comprehensive suite of collection services for all of our municipal needs,” said Tim Holdeman, City of DeKalb’s Public Works Director. “We look forward to working with LRS to provide our residents with exceptional service at a great price.”

DeKalb residents will benefit from valuable new waste disposal options, from electronic waste recycling to organic waste collection, combining food scraps with yard waste. LRS has partnered with DeKalb and sponsored events for many years, and recently provided free e-waste disposal to DeKalb residents.

“For LRS it’s much more than just picking up waste and recycling, we aim to build infrastructure, create local jobs and provide additional economic investment options for the City of DeKalb,” said LRS Managing Partner Joshua Connell. “We serve as true partners for all our municipal customers, relationships that are built on superlative customer service and unmatched attention-to-detail.”

The City of DeKalb is LRS’ fifth municipal contract win this year. The company continues to expand into Chicago’s vibrant west and far west municipalities, most recently announcing the acquisition of West Chicago-based DuPage Disposal, and services for the municipalities of St. Charles, Geneva, the Village of Lisle, and the Village of Hinckley.

“We are thrilled to welcome the City of DeKalb and its residents to LRS’ progressive system of waste collection and diversion. Like many municipalities with longstanding entrenched relationships, DeKalb made a future-focused decision for its residents and broke with tradition to improve service and support local recycling initiatives all while reducing costs,” said LRS Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley. “Our circular economy business model is focused on technology and innovation, enabling us to lead the way in safety, service accuracy and lower costs compared to large, landfill-dependent waste corporations.”

To date in 2018, the company has added nearly 50,000 new households to its service area. In June, LRS was awarded the Solid Waste Association of North America’s 2018 Overall Safety Award, recognizing the company for its commitment to ongoing safety awareness initiatives; and the only waste hauler recognized in the safety category.
