Chemical Foaming Agents (CFAs)

EPI manufactures a superior line of chemical foaming agents (CFA's, also known as blowing agents), under the names EPIcor, EPIcell and POLYcor. EPI's CFAs utilize FDA approved ingredients to provide a safer, friendlier product for the plastics industry. These CFAs provide a uniform cellular structure while reducing the weight in plastic parts. The current product line of patented CFAs include:

EPIcor: a family of endothermic chemical foaming agents for plastics used in structural foam molding, injection molding and extrusion applications. Unlike other CFAs currently on the market, EPIcor will foam most thermoplastic resins.
EPIcell: a family of exothermic chemical foaming agents for plastics used in structural foam molding, injection molding, blow molding and extrusion applications.
POLYcor: a family of hybrid endothermic/exothermic chemical foaming agents that combine the best properties of EPIcor and EPIcell.

Other purposes of foaming include

achieving new properties such as better insulation against heat or noise;
different surface appearance;
improved stiffness;
better quality (e.g., the removal of sink marks in injection molding);
different electrical properties;
producing cross-linked polyethylene foam; and
thermosetting plastics.
