City Wants Toxic Waste out of Landfill

Pittsburg (CA) on April 21 appealed a county Environmental Health Department recommendation to allow three drums of hazardous material to remain buried in the Keller Canyon landfill.

Three drums of nickel oxide inadvertently were deposited at the landfill in August. They subsequently were buried under 60 feet of cover before the mistake came to light.. County environmental health officials determined that the drums pose no health risk. The city accepts the health assessment but says that leaving the drums in the landfill will negatively impact property values.
