Consolidated Waste to purchase West Virginia sites
Consolidated Waste Industries, Inc. (CWI) announced it has signed an option to purchase the Albright Ash Facility and the Eccles Refuse Area from the Anker Coal Group companies of Morgantown, WV.
President and CEO Stephen E. Witmer says the company is making the development and management of coal ash disposal sites a special priority. "As long as coal maintains its position as a premier energy resource, the proper management of coal ash—including disposal—will remain an important link in the energy cycle," Mr. Witmer said. "This company is committed to providing U.S. industries with innovative thinking that addresses the growing scrutiny of coal ash management."
The Albright Ash Facility is a fully permitted coal ash disposal facility located on more than 220 acres near Kingwood, WV. The site includes rail off-loading facilities and is served by CSX Railroad. The facility has been in operation since the late 1980's and is estimated to have capacity through 2015.
The Eccles Refuse Area is a 175-acre coal ash disposal facility located in Raleigh County, WV. It has 12-million tons of capacity and is served by both CSX and NS Railroads.
The Anker Group of companies produces and sells coal used principally for electric generation and steel production in the eastern United States.
CWI (www.thecwi.com ), headquartered in Atlanta, GA, owns and operates solid and industrial waste landfills in the United States.
