Cornerstone Provides Expertise In Newton County Renewable Energy Business Park Project Receiving LMOP Award
Middletown, NY--(Marketwire) - Cornerstone Environmental Group, LLC announced that it provided engineering design and compliance services for the Newton County Renewable Energy Business Park LFG Direct-Use Project, located in Brook, Indiana, one of six projects recently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as part of the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) for innovation in generating renewable energy and protecting the climate and people's health by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The six winners were announced at the 14th Annual LMOP Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The Newton County Renewable Energy Park LFG Direct-Use Project was cited for contributing to job creation and providing energy savings and green power generation. The medium-BTU landfill gas (LFG) utilization project was conducted for Republic Service's Newton County Landfill, in Morocco, Indiana.
The LFG Processing Facility, designed and constructed by CPL Systems, Inc., can deliver up to 8,000 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) to the adjacent Renewable Energy Park, which was located specifically to take advantage of LFG availability. Urban Forest Recyclers (UFR), the first tenant in the Park, relies solely on the LFG for its thermal needs. Energy from the landfill is expected to support the business Park's energy needs as it grows.
Cornerstone provided engineering services, including preparation of LFG collection and control system (GCCS), design of interconnecting LFG piping and controls, design of the transmission pipeline to the end-user, assistance with air permitting and compliance issues and Construction Quality Assurance monitoring. Compliance services included development of a safety and compliance program, training for pipeline employees, annual pipeline inspections, and regulatory reporting.
"I am very pleased that Cornerstone could contribute to this exciting LFG reuse project," said Richard A. Peluso, PE, President of Cornerstone. "The project demonstrates a practical use of LFG as a fossil fuel replacement and the ability to turn this resource into a local economic driver. Without this project, the UFR facility would have been built elsewhere and the jobs it provides never realized by this community."
