Cover System

Enviro cover system is an alternative cover (AC) system consisting of patented and patent pending degradable polyethylene films, and a deployment machine called the Enviro cover deployer (patented machine and method for laying film on the face of landfills). The cover is manufactured in 16-ft (4.88 m) wide rolls and is available in a variety of thicknesses (2-9 mil) for an extended range of cover applications. The deployer is a film deployment machine capable of processing many types of ballast material used to anchor degradable film.

The system fully automates the AC application process by deploying degradable film over compacted refuse while distributing ballast in windrows to prevent film displacement. The deployer attaches easily to the blade of a dozer or compactor (prime mover) or can be towed by the prime mover with EPI's deployer support unit (DSU). The operator controls the functions of the deployer electronically by remote control. On average, the system can deploy and ballast approximately 10,000ft.² (929m²) of degradable film in approximately 30 minutes.

The cover is safe, effective, and easily deployed. Specifically designed to meet the mandatory requirements for daily and intermediate cover, it has good tear and puncture resistance, and elongation characteristics. Film degradation is initiated over a wide range of temperatures and once degradation starts, the process continues even in arctic temperatures. Because EC is photo/chemically/thermally degradable at controllable rates, it allows leachate and methane to migrate freely within the landfill, to enhance the decomposition of refuse.
