Doors Open to Wastecon 1999's Exhibit

It had invited the industry's news professionals to witness the official debut of its new family of CityCarts, which would be jointly introduced by its soon-to-become and current presidents in its newly redesigned booth.
Zarn's current President Henri Stephens, will be returning in November to Plastic Omnium's base in France. The new line, conceived by him, includes 95-, 65-, and 35-gal carts—plus what, Stephens says, is an industry first, a 120-gal unit for situations where 90 gallons won't cut it and the cost of the extra pickup can't be recovered.

Zarn also introduced a line of 20- and 35-gal inserts, permitting the carts to be configured in a variety of ways. The inserts allow cutting the capacity of the 35- and 65-gal carts in pay-as-you-throw programs. They are designed to be compatible with all standard lift devices, both semi- and fully automated.
According to the company's incoming President Jonathan C. Farley, the CityCart's high-molecular-weight HDPE material imparts resilience and strength, meeting or exceeding ANSI standards.
The carts come in a wide array of color combinations and each is treated for UV tolerance, said Farley, who is moving from a previous post at BIF.
Other options on display were lid options for recycling paper, plastic, and glass; dividers to split carts for recycling programs; butterfly lids; and lid graph molding.
Steffens described Zarn, with its new line and nationwide network of distributors, as providing a one-stop shop for municipalities and haulers.

Wysco used this year's Wastecon to sell itself to the solid-waste industry as a direct supplier of video equipment. (Previously the company sold its equipment through Holtz Industries.) Wysco also took the opportunity to preview its forthcoming model BS-7017, comprising a 7-in. CRT monitor and a CCD compact, "heavy-duty" camera built to withstand the rigors of vibration and the environment. Release of the system is set for December.
