Eco-Tec Awarded Contract For Acid Purification System To Mopani Copper Mines

Pickering, Ontario - The Mufulira Copper Refinery of Mopani Copper Mines PLC, located in Zambia, Africa, has placed an order for the supply of an Eco-Tec Acid Purification System(APU®).

Mopani Copper Mines, an integrated copper and cobalt producer, is in a program to improve the productivity and efficiency of the site. The Eco-Tec system is fully automated and allows improved control of the metal contamination within the Liberator Cell Acid Circuit.

The Eco-Tec APU® System is to process 140 cubic meters/day (37,000 gallons/day) of refinery electrolyte bleed solution in order to separate sulfuric acid for reuse and produce a deacidified stream containing nickel, iron, antimony, and bismuth. These metals can then be treated further in a cost effective manner as a result of the removal of the sulfuric acid.

Installation and commissioning of the system is planned for the third quarter of 2010.
