Eriez® FinesSort® Metal Sorting System Earns Product Of The Year Award From Plant Engineering

The FinesSort® Metals Recovery System from Eriez® won a 2008 Gold Level Product of the Year award from Plant Engineering magazine. Winners are selected based on a nationwide vote from the publication's subscribers, the people who purchase and use technically-innovative products on a daily basis.

Readers selected the FinesSort as a 2008 award winner based on how the system reduces energy costs, ensures safety and improves productivity in the scrap metals recovery process. Eriez is recognized as a world leader in the development and manufacture of process equipment for the recycling and secondary recovery industry.

Eriez' FinesSort provides a cost-effective method for recovering metals from the classified fines in a scrap shredding operation. The fines typically represent minus one-inch (25 mm) material screened from the process stream. In the past, this material was too small to treat with conventional process equipment, so it was sent to the landfill. The FinesSort now recovers the previously lost metals, turning a waste stream into cash flow.

The FinesSort system features a feeder coupled to a magnetic separator and Eddy-Current Separator to produce both a ferrous and nonferrous metal product. The feeder delivers a uniform feed distribution across the width of the magnetic drum separator. The magnetic separator recovers all ferrous materials in the process stream. The nonferrous materials from the magnetic separation are delivered to the Eddy-Current Separator, where nonferrous metals such as copper and aluminum are recovered.

Each year, Plant Engineering honors the best new products in the plant engineering market. The 21st Product of the Year awards were recently presented at the 2009 Plant Engineering Manufacturing Summit in Charleston, SC. Rod Palombo, Chief Mechanical Engineer and Chris Cedzo, Mechanical Engineer – R&D, both key personnel in the development of the machine, attended the presentation and accepted the award on behalf of Eriez.
