The Electronic Materials business of Honeywell [NYSE: HON] said today that is has received four top industry awards in the first half of 2000, recognizing the business' achievements in quality, technology innovation and customer service.
Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Chartered) in Singapore, one of the largest wafer-fab foundry services companies in the world, awarded Honeywell Electronic Materials (HEM) its first Gold Supplier Quality Award during the first quarter of 2000. This inaugural gold award rated HEM first among over 100 Chartered suppliers in both equipment and materials categories. The award recognized HEM for its outstanding combination of technology, quality, customer service and low-cost of ownership of its thin-film metal deposition and temperature sensing sputtering targets and temperature sensing products used in making semiconductors. Chartered presented the award at a ceremony during its Year 2000 Suppliers' Day. "We're pleased that Chartered, one of the world's leading foundry services companies, has acknowledged HEM's commitment to continuous improvement and cost of ownership," said Rich Salsman, Global Sales & Marketing Director for HEM's Wafer Fabrication Materials group, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. "To be the first company to receive the gold award is particularly gratifying."
In the second quarter of 2000, HEM's commitment to quality was again recognized by National Semiconductor Corporation, which presented HEM with its 1999 Quest for Excellence Silver Quality award for quality production and global service assembly products. Of the pool of 250 National Semiconductor Corporation suppliers, only 11 received awards with HEM being among the five recipients of the Silver Quality award.
HEM was also the recipient of an Annual Supplier Award from Fairchild Semiconductor during the second quarter. The award was presented for supplier excellence to the Interconnect Dielectrics business of HEM.
Again in the second quarter, HEM was the recipient of an award from Selete. Selete and International Sematech jointly developed performance metrics for 130nm technology on 300mm wafers which was successfully closed as of May 31, 2000. To celebrate the successful closure of the program, Selete awarded companies that had contributed to the effort. HEM, which provided material expertise (FLARE®) and personnel support, was honored for making a significant contribution in the area of spin-on deposition of low-k material.
"Awards like these recognize the work that HEM is doing to instill the highest level of quality practices across our global manufacturing, distribution and service,'' said Jack Bolick, Vice President of HEM.
Quality practices were further acknowledged during an audit of the metals and packaging solutions facilities by Underwriters Laboratories in order for HEM to advance the ISO 9001 registration to QS9000. QS9000 certification is awarded through the demonstration of continuous improvement processes (CIP). While demonstrating the proven track record for CIP, HEM manufacturing and R&D broke the record for the fewest number of non-conformances found during an initial audit.
"Achieving these milestones so quickly after the acquisition of Johnson Matthey Electronics and the merger of AlliedSignal and Honeywell demonstrates HEM's solid foundation in global quality programs and leading technology, as well as our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers,'' stated Bolick.
