IMPACT Services, Inc. To Acquire GeoMelt

Oak Ridge, TN - IMPACT Services, Inc., a waste processing facility located at the East Tennessee Technology Park, has reached an agreement in principal to acquire all assets relating to the GeoMelt business of AMEC plc. The GeoMelt technologies are a collection of vitrification processes that are used to safely treat and stabilize a wide variety of materials including organics, heavy metals, and radioactive contaminants.

"The acquisition of GeoMelt will allow us to offer our existing customers additional solutions while expanding our customer base. It will also open up new global markets and opportunities, and is a proven addition to our capabilities which falls in line with our business goal to grow the company and provide even more effective options for our customers," says IMPACT Services, Inc. President Ken Griffin.

The GeoMelt technologies transform hazardous chemical and radioactive wastes into an ultra-stable vitreous and crystalline material similar to volcanic obsidian that is typically 10 times stronger than concrete. Unaffected by wet/dry or freeze/thaw cycling, the product is unsurpassed in leach resistance and it is expected to maintain its physical and chemical integrity over many tens of thousands of years. Corrosion tests have demonstrated that the GeoMelt product is more durable than granite or marble.

"The GeoMelt product line is uniquely capable of solving some of the most significant problems with complex waste issues the industry is facing, including treatment of PCB, RCRA, and asbestos materials," said IMPACT Services, Inc. Chief Operating Officer Sammy Jones.

The transaction is conditional on the customary conditions precedent. The Closing is expected to take place in March.
