LBG Providing O&M Services For Hartford, CT Landfill
Located along the western bank of the Connecticut River, the landfill is owned by the City of Hartford and leased by Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA). The GFCS is operated to prevent the off-site migration of landfill leachate from the site. The system extracts leachate-impacted ground water and discharges it into the City of Hartford sanitary sewer system for treatment at the MDC-Hartford sewage treatment facility.
Under its contract, LBG is responsible for operating the system effectively and at optimum pumping rates. The firm will set and adjust pumping rates and cycles as necessary to ensure compliance with applicable environmental permits and account for seasonal hydraulic conditions. The system must comply with Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection discharge and pretreatment permits that regulate the hydraulic containment around the landfill, as well as the quantity and quality of water discharged to the local sewer system.
LBG will also be responsible for implementing equipment repairs, as needed, and will provide timely response to any system alarms or malfunctions. The firm will prepare and submit quarterly reports to CRRA documenting the overall effectiveness of the GFCS.
