Morgan City, LA Installs a Bioset Process System
The City of Morgan City, LA has installed and successfully started up a permanent Bioset Process System at its 4 MGD wastewater treatment plant. The system will convert the municipal sludge into Class A exceptional biosolids (per 40 CFR part 503), which will be reused as a lime-enhanced soil conditioner.
This Bioset Process System was entirely factory-fabricated and skid-mounted, eliminating the need for a construction contractor. The Morgan City system features a 36-in-diameter reactor, a lime silo, material handling equipment, as well as an odor-scrubber, and an integrated control system.
The patented system mixes the dewatered solids with lime and a solid acid. The resulting exothermic reaction consistently generates temperatures in excess of 155° F, thereby destroying pathogens. The process eliminates the ammonia and sulfide odors generated from other types of sludge processing operations. It also does not increase the volume of produced biosolids. The process produces a Class A product upon discharge of the material; no holding time is required.
Morgan City formerly disposed of their untreated, Class B, dewatered sludge in a landfill. The Bioset System will significantly reduce hauling and landfill costs associated with Class B sludge disposal.
The State of Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has issued a letter of exemption for innovative or alternate technology for the Bioset Process System to the City of Morgan City.
Bioset, Inc. is headquartered in Houston, TX and specializes in producing new environmental technologies.
