Non-metallic Track for Sludge Collectors

Non-metallic Track for Sludge Collectors

N/Aany%> has developed a non-metallic return track system which can be used in new and existing rectangular sludge collector installations. J-Track, named for the shape of the main structural member, is lightweight, will support all combinations of chain and flight materials, and is said to be more cost-effective than carbon steel systems. The ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene wear strip is described as the widest and thickest standard wearing surface in the industry, and is retained along its full length by integrally fitting the track member. This system is reported to be easy to work with and less labor intensive to install than other equipment of this type.

Support brackets molded of propylene bolt to the tank walls with epoxy anchors and can be repositioned either left or right if rebar is encountered during drilling. A fixed bracket is standard, and adjustable bracket, which can make installation easier by allowing two inches of vertical adjustment, is available. The heart of the system is a pultruded fiberglass-reinforced-plastic (FRP) J-shaped member designed specifically for this application. Twenty-foot-long sections of this component slide on to two brackets per section and into place. Molded poly splice bats connect the J-shaped members with four bolts per splice, and two poly stops per track length hold the track in position with one bolt each. These stops are positioned against the brackets at opposite ends of the track length. Ten-foot-long sections of the UHMW wear strip slide on to the J-shaped member and are retained in position by a stop. Fastened with one bolt, the stop fits into a notch in the side of the wear strip.
