Onyx Begins Landfill Gas Project In Wisconsin
Milwaukee, WI Onyx Waste Services Inc. is launching a new $2 million landfill gas project in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., that powers a nearby cranberry processing plant.
Methane from the Cranberry Creek landfill is being piped about a mile to the cranberry plant operated by Ocean Spray, Onyx said.
"With the start of the project, Ocean Spray is already projecting that its overall fuel costs will drop by up to 25 percent this year," Landfill Manager Fred Folsom said. "For Onyx, the gas utilization system reduces our methane burnoff at the landfill by two-thirds, and we have additional hookups for other potential businesses in the future."
