PA ATTORNEY GENERAL MIKE FISHER: PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED
Pennsylvania Attorney General Mike Fisher today announced that a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Daniel Carr, who is charged with operating an illegal tire processing plant, at 9 a.m., Friday, Jan. 22, before Quakertown District Justice C. Robert Roth, 515 S. West End Blvd., Quakertown. On Sept. 17, 1998, Carr, 59, of Chalfont was arrested by agents of Fisher's Environmental Crimes Section for operating an illegal waste tire processing site known as Tire Technology, Heller and Walnut Bank Farm roads, Richland Township, Bucks County. Fisher said Carr will be transported from the State Correctional Institution in Dallas, where here is currently serving a sentence of seven to 14 years for illegally dumping tires in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia. On March 13, 1996, the illegally stored tires were ignited by arsonists, and the ensuing fire severely damaged Interstate 95.
Fisher said the charges allege that between 1993 and 1996, Carr collected, stored, processed and disposed of more than 300,000 tires at the Richland Township site. Carr is charged with two counts of failing to obtain a permit to operate the waste tire facility, one count of violating a Department of Environmental Protection order and three counts of failing to take required safety precautions at the site.
If found guilty, Fisher said, Carr faces up to six years in prison and $150,000 in fines.
Deputy Attorney General Mark Freed is prosecuting the case.
