Product Profile: Wireless Data Solutions and wholly owned subsidiary DINET introduce new waste management tracking solutions

The DATA MATE 840 is a full two-way mobile data terminal designed to interface directly with the customer's existing radio system without the need for modems or other equipment. The DATA MATE 840 is customized to fit with any radio/wireless infrastructure, including Conventional Repeater, Multi-Channel, Remote Base, Local Tower, Trunking EF Johnson LTR, Motorola Privacy Plus, Ericsson, EDAC, CDPD, Cellular, and Satellite Networks. The DATA MATE 840 system consists of a mobile data terminal for each vehicle mobile radio and one central controller for each radio channel or trunking system. Each unit interfaces directly with the existing mobile radio, base radio or cellular device and allows the driver to connect to the fleet's base computer.

The DATA MATE 840 specifically enables waste fleet managers to exercise efficient control over the day-to-day operations of waste fleet vehicles, including vehicle tracking and dispatching priority, by providing immediate information to the fleet dispatcher. Vehicle mapping & tracking is provided through Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and through DINET's proprietary FleetAdvantage™ Software. In addition, due to the endless data capture requirements demanded by the waste industry to meet customer, business and governmental regulations, electronically knowing the status of each vehicle as well as specific events, such as arrival and departure from the job site, is crucial to successful waste fleet management.
The DATA MATE 840 allows the driver to perform routine communications by pushing buttons for immediate transmission to the base. Voice relay is not needed, thus relieving radio congestion and ensuring privacy and security. All transmissions, base to vehicle or vehicle to base, are automatically acknowledged, displayed and stored in the terminal, even if the driver is away. In addition, data is sent when a job event occurs, and every message is date/time stamped. This time-stamped event information, including the driver's in-service time, vehicle travel time, on-the-job billing time and estimated time of arrivals, can be used to generate an assortment of strategic management reports. These reports can provide invaluable feedback to aid in the identification of problem areas or the enhancement of profitable areas.
"Our DATA MATE 840 improves efficiency and productivity for waste vehicle fleets," stated Bob Chase, president of DINET Data, Inc. "In the past, there has been a limit on the number of trucks and jobs that can be managed and tracked by a single human dispatcher. Our solution dramatically improves the control of vehicle fleets, saving the customer substantial time and money."
The U.S. solid waste industry generated more than $40 billion in total revenues in 1999 according to the Environmental Industry Association (EIA). Approximately, 148,000 vehicles were dedicated to the collection and transfer of solid waste in 1999.
The DATA MATE 840 features standard input control lines for customer wired emergency switches or optional fare metering monitoring. It also includes output control lines to activate customer wired accessories like vehicle horn or headlights to attract the drivers' attention. The DATA MATE 840 can be programmed over the air or manually by a supervisor using a password code, and automatically identifies radio users with a five digit Automatic Number Identification (ANI) sent with every transmission.
The DATA MATE 840 unit itself is compact, durable and resistant to dirt, moisture and shock. It has a keyboard for driver data entry and a screen display for driver instructions and dispatch messages. Custom keyboards are available to meet specific customer requirements. Each terminal comes with a six-inch adjustable mount and the necessary radio interface and power cables. An RS-232 input/output port is standard for optional printer, GPS receiver, credit card and bar code reader. An application software package for the dispatch central computer is also included.
The DATA MATE 840's pricing starts at $800 and is available for immediate delivery. For more information on Wireless Data Solutions/DINET, call 760-724-5355 or visit their web site at: www.wdso.net.
