The Boom launch trailer system was developed to aid in the removal and attachment of a crane boom from the main body of the crane. The reason that this is so important is that European crane manufacturers develop their products for the EURO market where weight laws are not as restrictive as in the USA and Canada. When the crane arrives in the USA, it has to be disassembled by taking the boom out of the crane so that the crane can be made legal for permit bridge weight laws.
During normal operations an extra, smaller crane has to be dispatched to set the boom in the larger crane. It becomes expensive to dispatch the smaller crane to the location just to set the boom. This is why the boom launch trailer was developed.
