Transload America Inc. Acquires Proprietary Baling/Shrink Wrap Technology

New Technology Effectively Eliminates Odor And Leakage

South Orange, NJ — TLA-Bale Tech LLC, a subsidiary of TransLoad America Inc., has acquired certain assets of Utex Holdings, LLC, including all of the intellectual property and existing equipment in connection with a proprietary baling/shrink wrap system which produces hermetically sealed bales for transporting, storing and the ultimate disposal of municipal solid waste.

The TLA-Bale Tech system utilizes a unique round baling technology and can produce bales which can range in size from slightly over 1 ton to about seven tons. These bales are first highly compressed, a process which effectively eliminates odor and leakage, and then shrink-wrapped and sealed in several layers of impermeable plastic film. In particular, these bales can be stored indefinitely without any compromise to their physical integrity at the transload, resource recovery, or disposal site, enabling more effective load management throughout the entire waste delivery and disposal system.

David Stoller, TLA's CEO, said that "the acquisition of the Bale Tech system is a very exciting key step in our strategic plan. We believe this can revolutionize long haul transportation of waste, and enable railroads to expand their growing involvement in what is potentially an enormous new bulk commodity transport business. We are convinced that, with TLA's Bale Tech System, substantial economies can be realized in transport by higher car loading tonnages, as well as the elimination of current requirements for specialized steel containers. Our system can also yield significant cost savings at the landfill by reducing compaction and cover requirements." Mr. Stoller emphasized that "we believe at least as important as the cost savings to the urban communities now struggling to manage their ever-growing waste problems, are the environmental and public acceptance benefits of reduced truck traffic, no odor, no leakage, and no birds and other nuisances usually present when waste is being handled or stored."

The technology, originally developed in Germany, has a long and impressive operating legacy in Europe. Steve Petersen, of Petersen Inc., a major equipment fabricator with whom TLA has entered a long-term manufacturing agreement, says "we've seen nothing that matches this technology, and with the enhancements to the original design that we intend to implement, we believe TransLoad will be the category leader in the United States."
