Hi-rail test vehicles are contracted for ultrasonic rail flaw detection by light rail, commuter, and heavy haul railroads. Herzog's fleet includes vehicles for stop or non-stop high speed testing. Stop testing gives immediate verification of defects while non-stop testing allows for a chase vehicle to verify defects at painted locations. The rapid on-off track capability helps make the vehicles versatile and safe.
Herzog has developed and patented a new state of the art transducer array, which incorporates 18 ultrasonic transducers in two roller search units (RSUs). All crystals are chosen from the best material and individually turned to optimize signal response. Features include:
Accurate repeatable flaw detection
Strong/durable mechanical design
High speed or conventional speed immediate verification testing
On-off track high-rail capability for minimal traffic disruption
