Urban Waste Series adds New Book

The Urban Waste Expertise Programme (UWEP) has added a fifth title to its Urban Waste Series: "Solid Waste Management in Latin America—The case of small and micro-enterprises" Urban Waste Series No. 5 by J. Arroyo, F. Rivas and I. Lardinois (eds.)

The book is based on a large-scale investigation into the role of small and micro enterprises in solid waste management. Almost 90 enterprises in 7 Latin American countries were studied—among them enterprises that do street cleansing, are active in waste collection, or take care of final disposal. Topics covered include employment and income generation, gender aspects, costs of collection and street cleansing, technology and ownership, linkages with municipalities, community participation and the various roles stakeholders play.
