U.S. Composting Council's 14th Annual Conference & Trade Show A Huge Success

2007 Conference Scheduled In Orlando

Holbrook, NY — More than 500 composting industry professionals and 90 exhibitors attended the US Composting Council's 14th Annual Conference and Trade Show, January 22-25 in Albuquerque, NM. Hosted by a record 33 sponsors, the Annual Conference attracted a national and international audience, with representatives from nearly every state and several countries.

In addition to three days of training courses, educational and technical sessions, the conference also featured, Equipment Demonstrations by many of the leading equipment manufacturers and suppliers in the industry Grinding and shredding Equipment from Peterson Pacific, Morbark, Duratech, Vermeer, and Bandit Industries. Screening equipment from McCloskey International Limited and Orbit Screens. Dust Control and Odor Control equipment from Dust Control Technology. Mixing equipment from Supreme International and ROTO-MIX. Compost application and spreading equipment from Artex Fabricators, ROTO-MIX and AGCO/ Ag-Chem Application Division. Erosion control products from Certified Erosion Control and compost application equipment from Windswept Organix. Bucket screens and other attachments by ALLU. Colorizing, Chip processing, and Bagging equipment from Rotochopper. Wireless temperature monitoring & recording by Industrial Telemetry, Inc. and Container Composting system demonstration by Renewable Carbon Management.

Officers elected by the Board of Directors include President, Matt Cotton, Integrated Waste Management Consulting; Vice President, David Hill, Veolia Water of North America; Secretary, Ginny Black, Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance; and Treasurer, Kevin Tritz, Specialized Environmental Technologies.

Included in this year's conference highlights were awards presented for outstanding achievements in the composting industry:

  • Hi Kellogg Award for Outstanding Service to the Composting Industry, awarded to Marvin Urbanczyk, Scarab Manufacturing and Leasing
  • Rufus Chaney Award for Research Excellence, awarded to Harold Keener, The Ohio State University
  • H. Clark Gregory Award for Outstanding Grassroots Efforts to Promote Composting, awarded to Sumith Samarakoon Jayawardena, Burns Environmenta, Sri Lanka
  • Composter of the Year, awarded Sun-Land Garden Products
  • USCC Award for Outstanding Service to the US Composting Council was awarded to Ginny Black, Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance
  • A special Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to the Cortec Corporation for their sponsorship of the USCC quarterly newsletter. Accepting the award on behalf of Cortec was Bob Boyle.
Next year's annual conference is scheduled for January 21-24, 2007, at the Wyndham Orlando Resort, Orlando, Florida. Another tremendous event is planned, with a comprehensive program of workshops & training seminars, educational & technical sessions, and tours & equipment demonstrations. USCC President, Matt Cotton, invites all those interested in composting to join the US Composting Council for this annual educational and business opportunity.
