Viridor has acquired Milton Keynes-based Community Waste Recycling Limited, a specialist materials recycling and paper trading company for a total consideration of £15.75M.

The acquired company operates an advanced automated Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, processing commingled dry recyclables predominantly from long and medium-term contracts with local councils, as well as a smaller MRF in Enstone (North West of Oxford) processing waste from municipal, commercial and industrial customers.

Current annual processing of materials equates to 90,000 tonnes per annum, and the company employs 69 people, plus 80 agency staff.

Commenting on the acquisition Graham Warren, Viridor south east regional director, said: "There is a vital need to continue delivering higher recycling and resource management levels across the UK. Community Waste Recycling has an excellent track record in providing essential recycling services to businesses and councils in its operating areas.

"Their professional approach, smart technology and high quality service delivery will fit very well with Viridor's culture and we look forward to welcoming and working with our new colleagues and clients."

This acquisition fits with Viridor's strategy of expanding its materials recycling capacity, particularly where there are synergies with existing assets, such as our recycling services across the south east. It will further strengthen Viridor Resource Management's position as a leading supplier of quality recyclate volumes for UK and international markets.

Bruce Terrell, Community Waste Recycling managing director said: "We're delighted that Viridor is purchasing the business, as the company is a leader in our sector. Becoming part of Viridor will present good opportunities for employees, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders in the business."
