Waste Industries' President And CEO Jim Perry Elected To Chair National Solid Wastes Management Association

Washington, D.C. — The National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) is pleased to announce that Jim W. Perry, President and CEO of Waste Industries USA, Inc. (Raleigh, N.C.) will become its chairman on January 1, 2007. Perry has been on NSWMA's Board of Directors for many years. Since 2002, he has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Environmental Industry Associations, NSWMA's parent organization.

"All of us involved in the collection and disposal of solid waste understand clearly the important role we play in the quality of life around us," stated Perry. "Companies, both large and small, help provide an essential part of the infrastructure that serves not only business and industry, but local communities and neighborhoods. While we've made tremendous progress over the past decade, I'm excited to see that the enthusiasm, commitment, and professionalism within NSWMA continues to be a strong and effective voice for our industry."

"He has been an integral part of NSWMA's leadership for many years and a major voice for the solid waste industry's environmental and economic contributions to the nation. He has been a tireless worker in promoting industry safety and the value of NSWMA membership."

Perry began his career at Waste Industries as its first employee in 1971 and became the company's President and CEO in July 2002. He is on the Board of Trustees of Wake Technical Community College and the Board of Advisors of Camp Oak Hill. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Wake County Salvation Army and on the Board of Directors of North Carolina Beautiful.
